Working with rescue animals you never know what you get til they are here. We had one with very messed up back legs. It took a while for her to grow from puppy to adult but Dr. Kiefer was able to 'fix' her legs to give her a more normal outcome for a long playful life. This is the 3rd dog he has worked wonders on for us at OFOSA. Thank you Dr. Kiefer and the rest at Blue Pearl SW Portland...

Dr. John Kiefer and his staff were so caring and helpful with my dog's TPLO surgery. The whole process was streamlined, and the surgery was successful. Lori and Lauren answered all my questions before/during/after my dog's surgery. The office setup is perfect. I highly recommend Dr. Kiefer and team!!

Personally, I feel the entire process could have been more transparent with stronger communication. From the first call, the process was confusing. Due to my dogs injury, we opted for consult and surgery same day. However, we were not informed about the advantages and disadvantages of doing the consult and surgery same day. Little did we know, that meant we could not get scripts filled elsewhere as a result. Blue Pearl was able to pivot after this feedback but it still added unnecessary confusion and forced me away from work longer than needed to handle those calls. In their email and paperwork, I never saw who was performing the surgery or payment methods offered. In a sense, no "welcome packet" of information to orientate myself and my pup to Blue Pearl. If I had known payment methods accepted ahead of time, we could have planned accordingly and applied to Care Credit and/or Scratch Pay in time. Our arrival time was 845a and surgery didn't start till 3p with pick up at 630p. There wasn't any communication beyond a text informing us when surgery started. I felt terrible my little guy was in a kennel for that long without any sort of update. We also didn't get any sort of written summary from the doctor post surgery -- just a quick call. I don't even remember most of what he said. Even at 24 hours later... still no communication from the doctor. Alas, I process information better in written format and at the tune of $4,686.66; I just felt our concerns and feedback were glazed over. Hopefully we don't need a service like this again but, if we do, I think we will get quotes at Dove Lewis and Bridgetown before deciding. It was financially brutal particularly since we weren't well informed of our payment options. I hope no doubt the surgeon is fantastically skilled and this review is more a review about how Blue Pearl does things and not necessarily a reflection of the surgeon.
