I saw Dr. Milley almost one year ago. She impressed me and had a plan for my dog. We did the skin and blood tests, an elimination diet (homemade), and she sold me a few products that worked well at keeping Enzo's hotspots somewhat controlled. She was great at follow up questions and communications. I had told her that I had to cut the carbs out of the elimination diet because Enzo would flare with those. She said that couldn't be right, but I had tested it a few times, and he did flare with carbs. She had to put him on antibiotics and antifungals when he got bad hotspots/yeast after I gave him the immunotherapy drops. The office staff had mailed them to me, and when I asked about instructions, she said they were on the bottles. I gave Enzo drops from each of the bottles and that's when he had major skin flares. When I did a followup visit with Dr. Milley, she explained how the immunotherapy should be one bottle at a time, not all four. So, the mistake by the office staff cost me about $600 for the culture, more products, and antibiotics and antifungals. Enzo had had the antibiotics and antifungals previously, as well. She said he may have to go on Apoquel, which I am very against due to it's immune suppression. So, I kept looking for the root cause and would try different products. Dr. Milley said we could only manage the symptoms and there would never be a cure. So, to make a long story short, a year later, I independently decided to try a Gut Biome test. the results showed that Enzo had severe gut bacteria imbalance from all the antibiotics, despite that I had given him probiotics and kifer, and one of the types of overgrown bacteria is known to become worse with carbs. So, Enzo went on fecal transplant pills. The results were astounding. His hotspots went away, his hair is now thicker and softer. No more "allergies", yeast, or hotspots. I am so glad my dog is now living his life like a normal dog. There is a lot of information out there about the connection between the gut and skin issues, so I am upset that this test was not suggested, especially since Enzo had been on multiple rounds of antibiotics due to his skin problems. So, after spending a few thousand dollars there, it was Google that solved the problem.
I had a really great experience with Dr. Hansen at the Animal Dermatology Clinic and wanted to share. Even though my pet was originally being seen in a different department, Dr. Hansen took the time to step in and give a thorough exam without rushing.
He showed so much patience, offered thoughtful opinions, and communicated everything clearly. You can ask him anything, and he genuinely takes the time to explain and make sure you feel comfortable. He brings a fresh perspective while still being incredibly knowledgeable and attentive.
He’s also very kind and gentle with the animals, which made a big difference for us. We went in today for a recheck on Koda’s ears, and everything went smoothly.
I also want to recognize Juli, who is a fantastic and knowledgeable assistant. She does an excellent job coordinating care, takes a thorough history, and clearly truly cares about each patient. Her communication is clear, and she sets expectations really well, which made the entire visit feel organized and stress-free.
Highly recommend!
