Dr.Cates & the entire team provide the absolute best care. Alberta Veterinary Care has cared for 5 of our dogs over the years. I trust no one more than Dr. Cates - he’s brilliant, kind & an excellent communicator. The front desk team is incredibly well organized & efficient. I simply cannot recommend this clinic more highly. Dr.Cates & team are the Best of Portland & always have been

When I first looked into this clinic, I was sort of deterred by some of the recent reviews saying that their prices are high, but I decided to call anyway because they're so close to my new house. I asked about a few prices and found that they're actually on par or even more affordable than my last clinic in some cases (fecal testing, heartworm testing, exam fee, etc). When I went in for my dog's first exam, I asked for an estimate for a dental and was pleasantly surprised to find that it would be around $1500 including pre-surgery labwork, which was about half the estimate my last vet gave me. I was also kind of surprised how much time the doctor spent with me and my dog addressing my concerns, as in the past I've felt like clinics just wanted to get me out the door quickly. Overall the staff and doctor seem competent, transparent, and happy to help!

I scheduled my dog who’s a long-hair doxie, known for having little dog syndrome, however all the staff did great with him. He enjoyed everyone’s pets and snuggles. His care was specialized for his specific breed and all my questions and concerns were answered. We loved Dr. Lackey and the whole team was amazing!

The staff and vets are always responsive, kind, compassionate, and thorough. I’ve had a good experience with everyone I’ve met at the clinic. I have two cats, one of which is extremely anxious and she is always expertly handled and never treated like her behavior is an inconvenience. They’re the best! Special shout out to vet tech Leah, who is a ray of sunshine and always makes us feel taken care of!
